Burberry Cosmetics are Stylish and Elegant

Burberry fashions have always been a favorite of mine. It is a luxury brand with a distinctive British sensibility, all while being effortless, trendy, and classic. I love their structured designs and beautifully tailored trenchcoats. Their stylish look is well known and has been seen on A list models and celebrities worldwide.

Inspiration is everywhere, you just have to look for it and, of course, have the openness to be inspired. Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer of Burberry has continued to keep the design fresh and innovative with a new concept…Cosmetics!  Burberry Beauty was born. In 2010, Burberry Beauty celebrated its worldwide launch with a gorgeous campaign shot in London featuring British models Lily Donaldson, Nina Porter and girl du jour Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Early this Spring I was asked to do a review of the Spring Burberry Beauty Collection, since it was launching at Nordstrom in March, I was intrigued and honored. I find for myself that the worlds of art and fashion often collide, inspiring me daily, sometimes consciously, sometimes by happenstance. When I received the package of the beauty collection I was excited about the cosmetic treats and opened it with curiosity. The packaging was gorgeous with the iconic Burberry check stamped on each of the glossy metallic beauty tools. As I opened the lipsticks I noticed the magnetic closure and beautifully handcrafted embossed check they engraved on the lipstick as inspired by core Burberry icons and fabric details.

The new spring lip colors are very neutral and soft as reflected in their clothing line. I liked the fact that you can add them to your existing cosmetics and it will enhance them. Anyone could wear these hues with confidence; yet have their own personal style. They are subtle, casual, lightweight and modern.  The lip-glosses are nice and hydrating and have a cute glossy metal check engraved at the top. The Nude Rose lip-gloss was a hit with all the girls at The Rouge; it looked natural yet different on everyone.

When you’re out on the town wearing your Burberry trenchcoat, slide out your Burberry Beauty lip-gloss and be oh-so-chic with your new up-to-date British style. Now all I need is a Burberry Trenchcoat and a Burberry cosmetic bag to go with my new lip-gloss!

The Skinny:  New Technologies on Fat Reduction.

Coolsculpting May Be The Magic Wand For Contouring The Stubborn Fat You Want To Lose.

If I had a dollar for every time someone wished they could trim the pooch of the belly, the bulge of the hips, or even the little flesh that spills over the top of a strapless gown without any effort, then I’d be as rich as the people behind Coolsculpting Technologies are about to be.

The Coolsculpting device, which is now at residence at Dr. Michelle Place Plastic Surgery Center in Danville, is a non-invasive treatment that eliminates fat cells in specific areas of your body. A cooling applicator is attached to the targeted area to extract energy from the underlying fat tissue, while protecting the skin, nerves, muscles and other tissue. The cooled fat cells undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death) and are gradually eliminated, reducing the thickness of the fat layer.  Aside from some coldness to the area being treated and some electric tingle that lets you know something admittedly weird and extraordinary is happening, it’s trauma-free, safe, and requires no surgery or downtime.

Since the equipment was FDA approved and delivered to Dr. Place’s headquarters last December its switch has been in the “on” position more than it has been off and it’s no wonder it is the only office in the Bay Area that provides this service. The Plastic Surgery Center has done over 500 treatments for patients to help sculpt and melt their stubborn unwanted pooches: which is the hardest to rid with even extreme exercise.

On January 17^th I attended a Coolsculpting seminar at the beautiful “The Studio” in Danville to see first hand what all this melting fat was all about. The Coolsculpting people were there and were very knowledgeable and confident in their equipment.  Dr. Place spoke about the device as a lunchtime treatment that could be done in one hour and that will offer results from only one session! She also said, “it will give you lasting results, killing the fat cells for life.” The Plastic Surgery Center did a demonstration treatment on one of the 40 girls that were attending. I spoke with the patient in treatment and she told me that there was no pain; it was cooling yet comfortable. We all loved the results and, with zero downtime and no surgery, we were excited to line up and schedule our own procedure. Julie Fontaine, the office manager, scheduled a one-hour appointment for me to melt away my not-so-loving pooch.

I went in the next Monday without hesitation and was greeted by a wonderful and professional staff.   Dr. Place and the Nurse practitioner prepped my tummy and marked the areas to be sculpted. They placed the Coolsculpt device gently on the area of the skin that would be suctioned and pulled into the machine.   Aside from some cooling sensation, it was comfortable and virtually painless. Throughout the procedure Dr. Place and the nurse practitioner checked in to see how I was doing. I am now onto smooth and flat abs, while it takes up to 3 months to see the final results Dr. Place said you can see a reduction in 2 weeks. So, ladies, now is the time for slimming and melting that fat away for summer and the outcome is permanent, so start today. Once the word gets out, that machine will be going into overdrive.

A good toner will also help exfoliate the skin and retexture the surface of the skin so the complexion is firm and smooth.

Eye Creams:

Eye creams are essential to avoid pre-mature aging and wrinkles and one that is specifically made for the eye area. The skin around the eye is very thin and delicate and must be treated differently than the rest of the face. You cannot use face moisturizers around the eye area because they are too thick and will not moisturize or hydrate.

Face Creams:

When it comes to face cream you need to have guidance and find a cream that is best for your skin type. There are so many face creams on the market today, and some can get really expensive, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a great skin cream, but you need the right cream to work for your specific skins needs. Look for creams with vitamins and peptides in them. Research has shown when applying peptides with anti-oxidants and vitamins will reduce fine lines, firm the skin and stop the formation of wrinkles.

With the changing seasons I always look forward to the new color palates, it’s a way to have a fresh new start and exciting to try some new colors. Paris Fashion and Beauty

Keepin’ It Real

IT’S

1:30 in the afternoon on a beautiful Spring Day in Paris.  We are sitting at an adorable café in Saint Germaine, people watching.  A pass time Parisians love.  The weather in Paris is beautiful and warm. The Scene on Rue Francias is epic, women are dressed in adorable dresses, perfectly matched outfits and the occasional Levi straight leg jean paired with a beautiful blazer and stylish boot. Spring trends float up and down the street like a fashion runway. Sitting there I feel like I am watching the greatest fashion show on earth.  Women and men are dressed to the 10’s, so incredibly stylish taking pride in what they wear and how they present themselves. Even the way they walk or should I say stroll they have their own chic swagger.  It’s a lesson in fashion sitting there for a couple of hours. It’s no wonder designers in Europe take to the streets of Paris to see new ideas for inspiration.

As we sip our delicious tea and expressos and share the most wonderful Nutella crepe, I notice Europeans love their scarves both men and women and on this particular dreamy day every scarf we see has color;  Orange polka dots, wasabi greens, bright yellows and a lot of stripes of every hue.  RED LIPSTICK is the color choice of the season in Paris and by no mistake women everywhere I see are wearing red lipstick. Every skin tone color, young and the wiser are sporting the boldness of red. I loved the natural reds; the blushing reds and just the plain drop dead gorgeous matte reds. Three women come in to the café where we are musing and all three are wearing fabulous red lips!! Another stand out is blue eye shadow! Lovely tones of blue eye shadow colors shimmer across our path in all corners of Paris.  With red lips it is a very interesting look and it reminds me of the 1930’s style, but much more modern. I would call it a Modern Vintage Style with a twist of Retro.

We say our goodbye’s and Merci’s to our waiter friends at the café and walk down the street to the Metro to find train 6 to go to Printemps and Galeries Lafayette a shopping paradise in France; a sure shop until you drop wonderland.. We arrive our mouths drop and we get lost in the perfume and cosmetic land on the first floor of the Galeries Lafayette.  We are in cosmetic heaven!

Not all women can where red lipstick or blue eye shadow, nor do they feel comfortable wearing such a strong and bold trend.  But it is fun trying new colors yet keeping it real with your own personality. Summertime Beauty In The Sun

Why does the skin age from the sun?

I love the beach and the fresh air and sitting there enjoying my family and friends, watching the waves and smelling all the tropical coconut lotions and Hawaiian suntan oils. That to me is summer, being out in the sun and enjoying longer and warmer days.

Even though we all like to soak up the sun and sit on the beach, skin does age faster if you over do it in the sun. We all know this by now and to use sunscreens if we are out in the sun for long periods of time. But really what does the sun do to our skin when we are exposed to too much sun or when we burn the skin.

One of the questions my clients ask most often is: “Does the skin on the face age faster than the skin on the rest of the body?” My answer: It appears to. The truth is, it’s the way we treat our skin—not the aging process–that “ages” facial skin the most.

Scientists explain it this way: There are two types of aging, intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic(internal) aging is the rate of aging that occurs with the passage of time. Extrinsic (external) aging is intrinsic aging compounded by external causes such as sunlight, air pollution, and inflammation caused by harsh cleansers, rough treatments, hard water, and disease processes. Compounding extrinsic damage is the fact that with age your body’s ability to repair itself slows considerably. When we’re 11, our cells can repair themselves nearly perfectly from damage, but from age 20 to age 50 and beyond, the aging process begins to accelerate because we no longer have that ability for perfect repair.

So when you are soaking up the rays of the sun and your skin gets inflamed (sunburned), it is very hard for the skin to repair itself. We see Cellular damage in the form of wrinkles, sun spots and sagging skin. You don’t see the aging process right away but when you reach your 40’s and 50’s you will see visible signs of aging to the surface of the skin.

ANTIOXIDANTS TO THE RESCUE

Happily, our skin has allies in its continuing fight against free-radical damage. With technologies in highly advanced skin care, scientist have discovered certain nutrients called antioxidants (a group that includes Vitamin C , amino acids, DMAE and Co-enzymes.) can stop or even reverse free-radical damage caused from too much sun. They will help heal and help repair a good deal of the damage. The best advice I can give you is if you want to look tan buy a good self tanner. Sit in the sun in moderation and use a high grade skin care collection from licensed estiticians. One of the best creams on the market is our very own Face Firming Complex.
