Facial Cleansers:

You want to avoid the “one-size-fits-all” skin cleansers. If you have dry skin use a cleanser that will help nourish, protect, and re-moisturize the skin. If you have oily skin use a cleanser that will help balance the oil production and reduce acne. For sensitive skin, use a cleanser that does not have herbs or a scent, but that deep cleans the surface and eliminates skin irritations.

Facial Toners:

Face toners are essential for beautiful skin. They help the moisturizers work better, bring the skin back to its natural PH balance, and to remove residue left over from make-up. A good toner will also help exfoliate the skin and retexture the surface of the skin so the complexion is firm and smooth.

Eye Creams:

Eye creams are essential to avoid pre-mature aging and wrinkles and one that is specifically made for the eye area. The skin around the eye is very thin and delicate and must be treated differently than the rest of the face. You cannot use face moisturizers around the eye area because they are too thick and will not moisturize or hydrate.

Face Creams:

When it comes to face cream you need to have guidance and find a cream that is best for your skin type. There are so many face creams on the market today, and some can get really expensive, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a great skin cream, but you need the right cream to work for your specific skins needs. Look for creams with vitamins and peptides in them. Research has shown when applying peptides with anti-oxidants and vitamins will reduce fine lines, firm the skin and stop the formation of wrinkles.

EXCITING NEW COLORS FOR FALL

With the changing seasons I always look forward to the new color palates, it’s a way to have a fresh new start and exciting to try some new colors. Paris Fashion and Beauty

Keepin’ It Real

IT’S

1:30 in the afternoon on a beautiful Spring Day in Paris.  We are sitting at an adorable café in Saint Germaine, people watching.  A pass time Parisians love.  The weather in Paris is beautiful and warm. The Scene on Rue Francias is epic, women are dressed in adorable dresses, perfectly matched outfits and the occasional Levi straight leg jean paired with a beautiful blazer and stylish boot. Spring trends float up and down the street like a fashion runway. Sitting there I feel like I am watching the greatest fashion show on earth.  Women and men are dressed to the 10’s, so incredibly stylish taking pride in what they wear and how they present themselves. Even the way they walk or should I say stroll they have their own chic swagger.  It’s a lesson in fashion sitting there for a couple of hours. It’s no wonder designers in Europe take to the streets of Paris to see new ideas for inspiration.

As we sip our delicious tea and expressos and share the most wonderful Nutella crepe, I notice Europeans love their scarves both men and women and on this particular dreamy day every scarf we see has color;  Orange polka dots, wasabi greens, bright yellows and a lot of stripes of every hue.  RED LIPSTICK is the color choice of the season in Paris and by no mistake women everywhere I see are wearing red lipstick. Every skin tone color, young and the wiser are sporting the boldness of red. I loved the natural reds; the blushing reds and just the plain drop dead gorgeous matte reds. Three women come in to the café where we are musing and all three are wearing fabulous red lips!! Another stand out is blue eye shadow! Lovely tones of blue eye shadow colors shimmer across our path in all corners of Paris.  With red lips it is a very interesting look and it reminds me of the 1930’s style, but much more modern. I would call it a Modern Vintage Style with a twist of Retro.

We say our goodbye’s and Merci’s to our waiter friends at the café and walk down the street to the Metro to find train 6 to go to Printemps and Galeries Lafayette a shopping paradise in France; a sure shop until you drop wonderland.. We arrive our mouths drop and we get lost in the perfume and cosmetic land on the first floor of the Galeries Lafayette.  We are in cosmetic heaven!

Not all women can where red lipstick or blue eye shadow, nor do they feel comfortable wearing such a strong and bold trend.  But it is fun trying new colors yet keeping it real with your own personality. Summertime Beauty In The Sun

Why does the skin age from the sun?

I love the beach and the fresh air and sitting there enjoying my family and friends, watching the waves and smelling all the tropical coconut lotions and Hawaiian suntan oils. That to me is summer, being out in the sun and enjoying longer and warmer days.

Even though we all like to soak up the sun and sit on the beach, skin does age faster if you over do it in the sun. We all know this by now and to use sunscreens if we are out in the sun for long periods of time. But really what does the sun do to our skin when we are exposed to too much sun or when we burn the skin.

One of the questions my clients ask most often is: “Does the skin on the face age faster than the skin on the rest of the body?” My answer: It appears to. The truth is, it’s the way we treat our skin—not the aging process–that “ages” facial skin the most.

Scientists explain it this way: There are two types of aging, intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic(internal) aging is the rate of aging that occurs with the passage of time. Extrinsic (external) aging is intrinsic aging compounded by external causes such as sunlight, air pollution, and inflammation caused by harsh cleansers, rough treatments, hard water, and disease processes. Compounding extrinsic damage is the fact that with age your body’s ability to repair itself slows considerably. When we’re 11, our cells can repair themselves nearly perfectly from damage, but from age 20 to age 50 and beyond, the aging process begins to accelerate because we no longer have that ability for perfect repair.

So when you are soaking up the rays of the sun and your skin gets inflamed (sunburned), it is very hard for the skin to repair itself. We see Cellular damage in the form of wrinkles, sun spots and sagging skin. You don’t see the aging process right away but when you reach your 40’s and 50’s you will see visible signs of aging to the surface of the skin.

ANTIOXIDANTS TO THE RESCUE

Happily, our skin has allies in its continuing fight against free-radical damage. With technologies in highly advanced skin care, scientist have discovered certain nutrients called antioxidants (a group that includes Vitamin C , amino acids, DMAE and Co-enzymes.) can stop or even reverse free-radical damage caused from too much sun. They will help heal and help repair a good deal of the damage. The best advice I can give you is if you want to look tan buy a good self tanner. Sit in the sun in moderation and use a high grade skin care collection from licensed estiticians. One of the best creams on the market is our very own Face Firming Complex. It is rich in DMAE, Lipoic Acid, Ester-C, and Co-Enzymes.

1.       CAN I USE MY REGULAR FACE MOISTURIZER AROUND MY EYES INSTEAD OF EYE CREAM?

No. The delicate skin around the eyes cannot absorb thick creams therefore it will not nourish or hydrate.  Beware of heavy eye creams they can cause tiny bumps to form underneath the surface of the skin in the eye area.

2.     WHY ARE MY LIPS STILL DRY AND CHAPPED AFTER USING CHAP STICK?

Chap Stick is a protectant. It does not moisturize. Chap Stick is used to protect lips from wind, salt water and cold weather conditions. It’s like wearing Saran Wrap over the lips; the lips are sealed and protected.  Prolonged use will not allow lips to breathe; they get dry, cracked and peel. Vitamin E lip treatments are good for repairing and moisturizing the lips.

3.    I HAVE ACNE SCARS ON MY FACE, IS THERE ANYTHING THAT HEALS THESE SCARS?

Yes, Calendula cream with Vitamin E will help heal scaring.  It is very important to use these products immediately after the scar forms. Scars over a year old are very difficult to heal.

4.  SHOULD I USE A LIQUID FOUNDATION OR A POWDER FOUNDATION?

Liquid foundations will give you more coverage than a powder foundation. It really depends on how much coverage you need.  For younger skin I recommend a pressed Mica powder foundation so the skin looks smooth and natural.  For medium to maximum coverage I recommend a liquid foundation followed by a pressed powder.

5.  WHAT IS THE BEST MASCARA TO USE? WATERPROOF OR LENGTHENING?

Lengthening mascara the best choice because it coats the lashes and dries fast so you can put more coats on for a beautiful thick lash look without looking clumpy. Using waterproof mascara everyday has proven to weaken lashes and plug lash pores causing lashes to fall out.

6.  WHAT IS THE SAFEST WAX FOR EYEBROW WAXING?

Cream waxes are safe and gentle on the skin. It will not take off the skin, burn the skin or move on the skin. Gel (clear) waxes are extremely inexpensive and are notorious for getting too hot then burning the skin.

7. WHAT IS A GOOD SELF-TANNER THAT DOES NOT RUB OFF ON MY CLOTHES?

I highly recommend a clear cream self tanner. It works with your own natural melanin in your skin and it will naturally make you 3 shades darker in less than 2 hours. It looks the most natural and it fades like a tan. Ongrien self-tanner at The Rouge.

8.       AM I TOO OLD TO WEAR LIP-GLOSS?

Wearing gloss is appropriate at any age from 2 to 102. You are never too young or too old to wear gloss.  I like the glosses that have the peptides in it for super hydration and beautiful shine all day long.

9.     WILL SPARKLE EYE SHADOW MAKE MY EYES LOOK OLDER?

Some shimmery eye shadows get caught in the creases of the eye causing the skin to look crepey and older than they look..  When you apply a matte eye color on the eyelid then apply a sparkle over it, it will not get into the lines.  It will look smooth and pretty.

10. WHAT SUNSCREEN CREAM IS BEST FOR MY SKIN?

Using a sunscreen with SPF 25 is plenty.  I find it better to use a foundation with sunscreen in it. Then you can use a good anti-oxidant or anti-aging cream under the foundation to keep the skin hydrated and smooth and for maximum health skin benefits.

DMAE CREAM

Why Your Skin Goes South

Before we look into how DMAE firms the skin, it is important to understand why skin sags as we get older. Aging, particularly of the face, is characterized by many changes in the skin, including wrinkling, discoloration, mottling, broken blood vessels, and a decrease in radiance. But the face doesn’t show age just because of changes to the skin’s surface. Another very significant factor is the loss of firmness. As we age, the chemicals and nutritional precursors that give muscles that hold the skin maximum tone start to diminish as a result of years of free-radical damage. When a plastic surgeon performs a procedure designed to tighten the skin, he does not really focus on the skin itself as much as on the muscles underneath. He works deep below the skin’s surface, pulling those muscles back into place, suturing them so that they heal in a new position.
