What Makes Great Mascara?

Stop the confusion.

 I can’t believe what I got in the mail the other day: a beauty magazine filled with a zillion different mascaras. There were lash definers, Volume X-ers, motion mascaras (the kind that vibrate?), lash thickeners, lengthening, waterproof, hundreds of different colored mascaras and eyelash hair growth stimulators. And that is just to name a few!  No wonder so many women are confused about what mascara is good to use.  How can you choose? And the titles they come up are hysterical: MagnaScopic Volume-Intense Thickening Mascara or TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara, or my personal favorite: Superior Defining-Long Lasting-Color Concentrated Boosting Natural Plush Lash Mascara. It’s a mascara people – what is going on with this overly detailed hype?  Do these titles really make it better? Well I am going to help you cipher through all the hype and give you the real deal behind the mascara’s magic wand and what it should be doing for your fabulous lashes.

 First of all, if you are using waterproof mascara, I suggest you stop using it now, because it will eventually plug up your lash hairs, and you will eventually not have any lashes left. Waterproof mascaras have so much wax in them that while you wear it, it melts into your lash pores and plugs up the hair ducts.  As a result, the lashes stop growing.  If you have a problem with mascara running and smearing, use a good mascara that is fast drying and water resistant.  It is much better for your delicate lashes.  You can also try powdering under the bottom lashes to keep it from smearing.

 A lot of women come to our beauty boutique complaining that their lashes are all stuck together after using department store mascaras. The problem with some of those mascaras is that the cosmetic companies put too much water in the ingredients, so when you are applying it onto the lashes it does not dry fast enough so you get that clumping, and all the lashes fall together.  

 Fast drying mascaras are the best to use. You can build the lashes nice and thick, and it lengthens them making them look beautifully separated and naturally fuller. We always recommend black mascara for best results.  We do not encourage using gray, brown, or colored mascaras because they often make the eye look tired and red. Black is a cool tone and will always brighten the eye.

 Lash thickeners or lash primers are great too: they help fine lashes appear thicker. They coat the lash from the base to the tip to help hold mascara to the lashes for a fuller look. Great product!!
